Talaria

Talaria Komodo climbing through a forest

Talaria is one of the names people walk in and ask about. Five off-road bikes in the shop. For most people, the answer is the Sting R.

Which one

The X3 Mini is the short one. Little wheels, seat at 760 mm, and you can fit the bigger X3 wheels later when the rider has grown into them. About 47 mph. £2,995.

The X3 Pro is the light full-wheel bike. Fifty-three kilos with the battery in, and the battery stays in. A 19-inch front and a 17-inch rear. Same sort of speed as the Mini, just a bike you can throw about. £3,235.

The Sting R is the one we’d put most riders on. Air-cooled, about 55 mph, 66 kg, and a bigger battery than the original Sting. Quick enough to grin, calm enough that it won’t try to spit you off for looking at it wrong. £3,495.

The Sting Pro is that same family on 72 volts, if the R feels tame. Talaria reckons about a third more go, and about 60 mph. £3,995.

The Komodo is the big trail bike. A 21-inch front, an 18-inch rear, and a claimed 32 kW. Visordown’s Simon Hancocks had a look in January 2026 and filed it under “not a toy”. He also raised an eyebrow at the torque number, which is the right reaction. Electric brands love a huge figure measured at the wheel. Ride the bike. £5,195.

The Sting R

This is the Talaria people mean, even if the paperwork calls it a TL4000. The motor is a step on from the first Sting, the battery grew to 45 Ah, and a full charge from a normal socket is about three hours. Talaria’s “up to 52 miles” is a steady-riding figure. A lap on a motocross track will use it faster, same as every other range claim you’ll read.

Sixty-six kilos, happy with a rider up to about 100 kg. The frame is forged, the forks have preload and rebound to fiddle with, and it drives by chain. Wheels are 19 inches at both ends. If you’re shopping a mid-size off-road bike, this is the conversation.

The X3 Pro

Talaria’s line is that everyone already knows the Sting, and the X3 is that idea you can still chuck over a gate. They’re not far wrong. It’s the lightest bike in the range, the rear suspension was beefed up so it takes a hit better than the X3 it grew out of, and it’ll do about 47 mph.

The cells are LG and they stay in the bike. A full charge is about four hours. Inverted forks, a single shock, hydraulic discs, and a mix of belt and chain. Tyres are a 70/100-19 front and an 80/100-17 rear. Buy this when you want light. Buy the Sting when you want the one everyone else is on.

The Komodo

This is Talaria stepping out of the play-bike lane and into full-size trail-bike territory. On paper the motor is a big one. In the real world, that sort of motor on a pack this size will drink the “up to 70 miles” if you ride it hard. Talaria also claims 0–60 mph in 4.5 seconds and about 65 mph flat out. Treat the sprint figure as a claim, and the wheel-torque figure as a boast.

That puts the Komodo firmly into the ‘not a toy’ category, and closer to a lightweight trail or play bike than the electric pit bikes many riders will still associate with the genre.

Visordown, 10 January 2026

The useful bit is the chassis. Forged frame, upside-down forks, a 21-inch front and an 18-inch rear, hydraulic discs and a chain. That’s trail-bike sizing, which is the point. A few ride modes, so you can wind it back while you learn it. Still off-road only, and £5,195 here.

Where you can ride one

Important: the X3 Mini, X3 Pro, Sting R, Sting Pro and Komodo sold here are for off-road use only. They are not legal on the road.

In England and Wales these five belong on private land, with the landowner’s say-so, or at a track that allows electric bikes. Not the road, not a byway, not a bridleway, and not the pavement. Quiet doesn’t change whose land it is. Ask before you unload.

We’re at Unit 14, Emley Business Park, Leys Lane, Huddersfield. Weekdays are 10am to 4pm. Weekends are by appointment only. Delivery is £50.

Questions worth asking

Which Talaria should I buy?

The Sting R, unless you already know you want lighter, shorter or faster. The X3 Pro is the light one. The Mini is for a shorter rider, and the wheels can grow with them. The Sting Pro is the 72 volt Sting. The Komodo is the big one, and it is a different kind of bike.

How is the Komodo different from the Sting R?

More motor, a bigger chassis, and a 21-inch front wheel. Talaria claims 32 kW and a 0–60 in 4.5 seconds. The huge torque number is measured in a flattering way, so don’t compare it with the Sting’s motor figure and call it sixteen times the bike. It’s still off-road only, at £5,195.

Can I ride one on the road?

No. Private land, with the landowner’s say-so, or a track that allows electric bikes.
